Mt Kilimanjaro is the highest peak in Africa
Situated in North-Eastern Tanzania, Kilimanjaro is an extinct volcano, with a permanent snowcap. Kibo, the highest of the three craters (5895 m / 19340 ft), is covered with snow up to 200 meters deep. A 2 km (1.2 mi) wide crater, reaching depths of 300 m (948 ft), it was first climbed by Meyer in 1889.

The base of the mountain, which covers almost 200 square miles, is dense forest, supporting leopard and various species of antelope. As we ascend, climactic changes bring about changes in the habitats, with vegetation getting sparser. Above 16000 ft, there is no vegetation.
